Awareness Journey

Why is it that when people hear voices in their head, the voices always/only tell them to do bad things and never good?

People hear voices in their head all the time. These voices are not the voices of someone else telling them what to do or what not to do. It is their own voice, they are basically talking to themselves. But it reflects what the person thinks the society or someone important to them expects from them.

So if the person expects that someone important to them wants them to do something bad, then they may find that the voice in their head tells them to do something bad. There is also another possibility, that of the rebel. If the person grew up with very strict and assertive parents or caretakers, they may be in a permanent rebel mode. So if they expect the society around them to do good, the voice in their head would tell them to do bad.

Each person’s voice in the head would be different and specific to their upbringing and life circumstances. There can be no general rule about what the voice in the head would tell. But there can be a simple clear path of how to switch off the voice in the head. Because it becomes exhausting. The mind is always tired because we do not know how to switch off the voice in our heads as well as all the other mental activity we keep being engaged in all the time. This is the cause for the restlessness in our mind. Please read the following article to understand why this happens and how to respond.

Why do I feel restless during meditation?

What actually happens when you feel restless? There is an urgent urge to be somewhere else, you feel like wanting to get up and run away, the legs might be vigorously shaking on its own, you are unable to stay still, your breathing is rapid and shallow and your mind is jumpy meaning many different unconnected thoughts arise at the same time or in rapid succession, you don’t know what to do and what not to do. The brain waves are vibrating at a high Beta frequency of close to 30Hz. Our physical body is only a small part of the whole of us. There is a huge bubble of energy engulfing our body variously called – Bio-Field, Bio-Plasma, Human energy field, Subtle body, Aura, Energy body, Atman, etc. This energy field acts as a protective space suit around us. If the physical body is the hardware, this energy field is the software running or operating it. The energy pollution surrounding us and caused by the digital information age, interferes and imbalances the human energy field and distorts the way we think, emote and experience life. There is an inexplicable underlying sense of restlessness in human society both in the collective as well as the individual levels today. This underlying restlessness which shows up as stress or lack of ease or a state of rush or hurry, is actually a state of inner energy imbalance. The invisible, unnoticed energy pollution, in my opinion is the biggest cause of the restlessness we all collectively experience. The space around us is probably filled with unimaginable amount of information – in the form of energy waves – emitted by and connecting all our digital network. This is energy pollution causes the restless state of our mind-body and this restless state is the permanent default state in which we live. During Meditation you are only able to begin noticing or being aware of this restless state. You are not starting to become restless because of the meditation practice. Therefore it is normal to feel this and you can reconnect to the electromagnetic earth energy emanating from the magnetic core of the earth by grounding and reduce your brain waves to Alpha (8 – 12 Hz). Doing simple energy movements such as Selvans Deep Crossing (google search this to find the YouTube video) will ease or settle your restless energies considerably for a better meditative experience.

Can someone who has never been able to meditate learn how to do it and get results from it?

Yes you can, it is quiet simple actually. You only need to learn when you have to do something. Meditation is a practice of non-doing being. You just need to choose not to do anything. But here the activity is mental activity not physical activity. Just do the following for one to three minutes and see what happens. This is FGCB or Fixed Gazing and Conscious Breathing. Simply take a few minutes to be with this practice several times during the day for a few days. It would be even more helpful if you can practice three minutes of gentle body movements called Deep crossing after the FGCB and continue with the FGCB while doing this. It is demonstrated in the below link for the YouTube video. Selvans Deep crossing: https://youtu.be/qq6iKZquuVI After several days of the above practice, listen to the following guided meditation audio and sit with the practice of 5 minutes short open eyes meditation. Sit for the meditation after doing deep crossing. Selvans Guided Meditation – Witnessing the four simultaneous activities: If you want to go further, you may use the other longer closed eyes meditation audios in my SoundCloud profile to progressively practice with meditation. Another option is to enroll for my online mentoring program called Awareness Journey. Read about it in the link below.
