Two years ago during the pandemic lockdown my uncle died of COVID in another city, in a hospital with no one around him and we couldn’t even attend his funeral. I grew up treating him almost as my father and was very close to him. For the next ten days I couldn’t sleep because his spirit seemed to be visiting me and talking with me every night. At first I thought it is my imagination but he told me few things of which I was unaware and later confirmed as true. The lack of sleep and sorrow led to severe anxiety and panic attacks. I have never before suffered with such severe anxiety and only the support of my daughter and wife helped me back to normalcy after ten days of suffering.
The best aid for severe anxiety or whenever you feel that anxiety is likely to happen is someone near and dear, who is a grounded calm person. Otherwise they will also get blown away with your anxiety. A therapist would help if you don’t have anyone.
I suggest a few practices that you can cultivate into a regular habit to be free from stress and anxiety. However these may not help during a panic attack or severe anxiety unless you have been practising with these over a long period of time.
