When the telecom company technicians dig up the road, it becomes narrower resulting in a traffic jam. On weekdays it results in a bigger jam and at peak hours during these days it is an unmanageable pile up causing a lot of suffering and pain. But if you drive through the same narrow road at 7 am on a Sunday morning, the traffic flows smoothly like knife cutting cake.
The stress and restlessness in our lives cause us to lead a lifestyle pattern of insufficient sleep, unhealthy food and drinks, untimely hours and damaging emotions. Intense physical exercises do not help in healing this condition. I have known many active marathon runners who have clogged arteries and fluctuating blood pressure. You might have even read about instances of death due to heart attack on the running track. Run event organisers usually have an ambulance on standby during these events. Resting the mind is what heals the body. Mental exhaustion due to the constant engagement with thoughts all the time is the primary underlying cause for all lifestyle diseases.
It is important to practice Anulom Vilom in the right way so that it helps you quieten the mind and regain your earth energy connection. You may hold the right posture and keep your eyes open with a fixed gazing and breathe very slowly and very gently with exhale slightly longer than inhale. Allow your mind to quieten by holding a stance of aware acceptance and allowing. It is not an exercise and there is no need to put effort into the activity. The aim is to slow down, relax and rest your mind primarily and also relax and open up your body.
Just twenty minutes of practice in the morning and then forgetting about it to go back to an unchanged lifestyle would probably not work.
